Wayne Bates

	Wayne Bates, 84, of Raymond, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 6:30 a.m. in Mongomery County Nursing Center in Hillsboro.
	Mr. Bates was a retired farmer.  He also worked for the State of Illinois- Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1989.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.  He was a charter member of the Raymond-Harvel Kiwanis for 45 years, served as President for two terms and was regional Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis International.  Mr. Bates was also Drainage Commissioner for 56 years.  He was a graduate of Morrisonville High School.
	He was born August 17, 1918 in Brownstown, the son of the late James Henry and Molly Davis Bates.  He married Margaret Bruntjen  on September 17, 1939 in Harvel and she survives.
	Also surviving are one son, Dr. James A. (wife-Beth) Bates of Du Quoin; two daughters, Molly Jo (husband-Bill) McElwee of Charleston and Judith Britton of Oblong, Illinois; one foster sister, Phyllis Bates (husband-Leno) Reck of Taylorville; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
	He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and one niece.
	Funeral services were at Community Faith Church in Raymond on Wednesday, June 4 at 11 a.m. with Reverend Ken Dees officiating.  Burial was in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond.
	Visitation took place at the church one hour prior to service.
	Memorials may be made to Raymond Memorial Park, Raymond Harvel Ambulance or Doyle Library in Raymond.
	Hough Funeral Home in Raymond was in charge of arrangements.
